“I came to America in 2001 as a refugee from Vietnam. I was 3 and didn’t speak any English. My grandfather fought in the Vietnam War with American soldiers and was imprisoned for many years for doing so. As soon as we came here, we were in debt because the plane ticket wasn’t free.”
