Marissa S. Mortel

Assistant Project Director, Liberty Partnerships Program
LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY
Phone: (718) 780-4012

Marissa S. Mortel lives by the African proverb; It takes a whole village to raise a child.

Since 2016, Marissa has worked with Long Island University (LIU) - Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) on the Brooklyn campus. She has experience in developing college and career readiness programming that has included activities designed to educate youth in the areas of goal setting, strengthening resiliency and social-emotional wellness, as well as exploring post-secondary school plans. Her experience also involves collaboration with community partners to facilitate workshops for students and parents. All these efforts are driven by the LPP mission of supporting at-risk youth to graduate high school and be prepared for higher education and the workforce.

In addition to working with LPP, Marissa has been an adjunct professor for First Year Seminar at LIU. Her tasks involved educating college undergraduates on such topics as high school to college transitions, cultural diversity, time management, and career development.

Prior to working for Liberty Partnerships Program, she served as Family Services Director at an early childhood center in Westchester County, NY.

Marissa holds a B.A. in Sociology from SUNY Binghamton and a M.S. Ed. with a concentration in School Counseling from LIU.
