LPP Students Learn About Opportunities at the University of Rochester

Written by Monroe Community College LPP | April 11, 2023

The students of the Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) spent an afternoon with the Teen Employment Center for Community Health and Prevention. The Teen Health and Success Partnership (THSP) matches students living in the City of Rochester with employment opportunities at the University of Rochester (UR) and provides hiring and employment assistance to support students’ long-term career success.

A presentation from Director Annabelle Kleist, Navigator Lucas Santana, and Navigator Jillian Glimore spoke to students about how employment at the University exposes students to local career opportunities in their field of choice – from health care to food service to IT – and helps them develop marketable job skills and financial independence. Participating students have access to an advocate and a suite of wrap-around services for overcoming obstacles at home, school, and work. This partnership structure provides students with the vision and tools for a range of educational and career options after graduation and enables the University of Rochester to employ well-prepared youth from the local community.

During the informational presentation, students had the chance to interact with the navigators as they gained important information regarding employment with UR. Afterward, LPP staff assisted students with resume writing, and mock interviews. LPP staff worked with students one on one to create a positive career exploration event tailored to their specific needs and interests.

Liberty Partnerships Program is funded by the New York State Department of Education.
